CAS Perspectives on Wild, Feral, and Free-Living Animals

Call for Abstracts

When: August 6 - 7, 2026

CfA: We welcome abstracts for presentations by critical animal studies scholars in all disciplines, animal activists, and artists relating to the conference theme of Animals at Large: Critical Animal Studies Perspectives on Wild, Feral, and Free-Living Animals. Potential topics include, but are not limited to:

  • Wild animals in the Anthropocene: endangerment, extinction, resilience and adaptation

  • Urban wildlife

  • Animal control and the criminalization of “pests” and strays

  • Wild animal ethics: are we ethically obligated to intervene in the suffering of free-living animals?

  • Wild and feral theories

  • Ethnographies and autoethnographies of specific species of free-living animals

  • Feral cat colonies and the “Cat Wars”

  • Co-existing with predators

  • Animal resistance and revolt

Please submit 500-word abstracts and 150-word presenter bios by January 1, 2026 by sending to canadiansocietyforcas@gmail.com. We welcome proposals for individual presentations or for complete panels. We also welcome proposals for creative presentations and activist-led workshops.
